Decisions

Some decisions is life are easy. Some are harder to make & some are down right difficult. Like the decision we wrestled with in the past several months to change our living accommodations from a home with stairs to one without stairs. We had lengthy discussions about what we both would like, where to live, do we rebuild, looked at single level homes &  condos  & decided we are not ready for community living & then made the decision to buy a lot & build a single level home. Our home sold much quicker that we expected. It was the right home to the first lookers. So we signed the papers.

This is the lot we purchased in a different part of town than where we are now. Several of the contractors have been hired & are ready to begin work as soon as the frost is out of the ground by the end of April or so. So our summer will consist of decisions in the many areas for our new home.

The Strip Quilt

This quilt is made using Bali Pops from Hoffman Fabrics. The strips are 2 1/2 inches wide.
I found a pattern online for 2 1/2 strips first sewn into a continuous strip & then is doubled, cut & sewn again which results in the variety of fabrics in a row.

I pieced a variety of batik fabrics for the backings & quilted it in a diamond pattern. I think this quilt will be mine to enjoy for awhile before I add it to my stash of completed quilts.

The "Owl" Purse.

Today was a day off school for children here in Manitoba & my granddaughter, Katie had made a date with me several weeks ago so we could work on a sewing project. She is taking sewing in 4H & is enjoying it. I am quite impressed with the bits of knowledge she shared with me that she has learned about sewing. Katie chose this owl purse that she wanted to make. So this morning after breakfast at Tim Hortons - her choice - we started with her choosing the fabrics. Then we changed the original pattern by enlarging it just a little.Katie did a good portion of the sewing too.
Here she is modelling her cute owl purse. Katie choose the colours of the rainbow in bright shades. We had a great time working on this together.

The Finish

Here you can see the backing of the quilt. Found this beautiful matching piece of fabric in Fargo at Joann's.
This is the black & white quilt that I have been working on for just over a year & a half. I was just a little afraid to tackle the quilting but then decided to stitch in the ditch & I'm quite happy how it turned out. This quilt will go into my stash of ready made quilts to be gifted to one of my 8 grandchildren when they become adults & have a home of their own.
I think it looks pretty nice on my bed & I just may put it there once in awhile so I can enjoy it too.
