The "J" Home Dedication

Today we held the dedication for the "J" home & it was an emotional time for all who attended. This is the house that Albert worked on the most as the framing had just been completed when we arrived. This is a couple who has come through some great struggles after the fire destroyed their home & other buildings & they are just beginning the healing process. It has been a real privilege to be a part of the process to bring happiness into their lives. They expressed their appreciation over & over again to "The Mennonites."

Here are some pictures of some of the delicious food we have been enjoying here. Our cooks at the camp here are fabulous cooks & we have also eaten at some great new restaurants.

Cozy Quilt Shop

This is the quilt shop that the cooks & myself have stopped at a few times on our way home from grocery shopping. It has a great assortment of fabric & patterns. Would love another stop here on our way home --- maybe while Albert gets an oil change for the truck!!!

Home Dedication #2

Here are a few pictures of the "A" home dedication last week Wednesday. This family was so excited about their home. In the second picture, Tina is presenting a wall hanging that she has made. In the bottom picture, David is presenting a Bible to the family.
Next week there will be another home dedication for the final house that MDS is building here. The team are all working hard to finish the house by the end of next week which is when we'll be leaving for HOME!!

Tecate, Mexico

Sunday afternoon, another MDS couple & us went to Tecate, Mexico. Albert got his shoes shined & I bought a few trinkets for the grandkids. Life seemed to be more family orientated & leisurely than I've found the Tijuana markets to be.

Dulzura Post Office

This is the Dulzura post office where we get our mail and we also have mail delivery at the road by the camp. It is a quaint building which was built in the 1920's & serves some 700 residents. It is right next to Hwy 94 which is a very busy road. The post master is very friendly & remembered me after my first visit. In this area MDS people are known as "The Mennonites"

Today we made a trip to Anza Borrego Desert State Park with our MDS TEAM. We stopped for coffee in a quaint town of Julian where daffodils bloomed on the roadsides. From there we drove along winding, hilly, twisting roads to the state park. We stopped at the Visitor's Center & walked along the many trails & saw many varieties of cactus, many were blooming or had buds. We took a different route home & saw rugged terrain, more rocks, more hills & more cacti. It was a great day.

The MDS Midwife

On Thursday, when we were sitting out on the deck enjoying our lunch & the sunshine, the neighbour lady came over from next door & told us her nanny goat was experiencing some difficulty delivering her kids, did any of us have experience in assisting goats giving birth. Of course I couldn't jump over the fence fast enough to help even if my hands on experience in goat delivery is limited. When we got there one kid was already born & I verbally assisted with the delivery of the second baby! Two very cute baby kids that I can go over & play with any time!!How great is that?? For those of you who know my fondness for goats, will know that I'll go check them out frequently. And then the nice lady gave us a big bag of lemons from her tree & told us to come & pick more whenever we need some. This all made for a great story at report time after supper!

Home Dedication #1

Here are a few pictures of a Home Dedication we held yesterday for the "K" house. The top picture is of the home owner, Jeff & myself. I was privileged to do the prayer of dedication for the home. The second picture is Anne presenting Jeff with a quilted wallhanging. The bottom picture shows Jeff with the area MDS representative cutting the ribbon. It was so exciting & humbling to be a part of this very touching ceremony. Jeff is so very grateful for his new home that he will share with 2 of his sons. His wife died a few years ago. This is a 3 bedroom home around a 1000 square feet. Salvation Army, Red Cross, Community Recovery Team & some churches all worked with MDS to build this home.

Trolley Tour of San Diego.

Saturday we spend the day sightseeing in San Diego with Dave & Martha who also are volunteers here at the Dulzura Project . We bought our tickets & hopped on the Old Town Trolley which took us all over San Diego & we had our choice of 11 stops. We learned alot about the history of San Diego & also stopped at several places to walk & enjoy the sights. At the harbour there were several cruise ships in the dock. They were huge! We all had a great day!

The "A" House

This is the "A" house & it is almost done. Albert will be going there tomorrow morning to finish putting the handles on the kitchen cupboards. This is lovely 3 bedroom home. And in their front yard they have these cute goats. A number yards here have fences with goats & sheep in them. Right next to our camp here there are several goats behind a high fence so I can't jump over it to play with them. I hear them softly bleating to me when I am working in the office. I have been fairly busy in the MDS office this week, doing month end paper work. Today the sun came out & we enjoyed our breaks & lunch outside.

The "K" House

This house is complete & waiting for the final inspection tomorrow. It is a 3 bedroom home. The top picture shows the view from the living room window. We hope to have a home dedication later this week. This was one of the sunnier days here. The weather has been cool & rainy. Albert installed floor covering & cupboards last week. I have been keeping quite busy in the office, learning how & where to enter all the supplies purchased for the homes MDS is building here.

The Only Way In & Out

Today I had a chance to go with Albert on a short errand. I snapped a few pictures along the highway that we drive on whenever we go anywhere. It is a very busy road with many curves & hills. And driving at night is a whole new experience which we did the second day here & never want to repeat again but will need to if I want to go out for supper sometime.
