This Weeks Progress

We had a brick driveway at our Prairieview house & decided we wanted one here too. The bricks were purchased last fall from Menards on a very good sale & delivered in November & decorated our front yard all winter.

Curbs poured & ready for the bricks to be laid down.
Crushed rock base leveled & packed down.
First few rows of bricks are down.
 Pallets of bricks ready.
 Row by row.
 Cutting bricks to fit.

Quarter down crushed rock is spread over the bricks to keep them in place.

Bottom corner almost done. After all the sidewalks are done, a compactor will be used to level the bricks & then the driveway & sidewalks will be sprayed with water to clean away the excess sand & dust. A lot of work has happened this past week.

Quilt Show

I had my very own quilt show at Lion's Prairie Manor in Portage
 where my mother lives

I displayed my collection of quilts that I have been working on for the last 10 - 12 years.
Grandson Adam let me borrow his blanket for the show.
My sister, Helen, brought her quilt, on right, to display.
This one got quite a few compliments.
Found my Christmas quilt in the first box I opened when I was looking for it!

This one I dig out when I go to the race track to cheer on my favorite driver.
Most of these quilts will be given to my grandchildren at a special occasion in their life.
Extra baby quilts waiting for new arrivals.
It was a great day & I enjoyed the residents' interest in my quilts.

Mennonite Girls Can Cook

The above link should take to an excellent site that is the first one I go to when searching for recipes. The authors just released their second cookbook - pictured above - & two of the authors came to my town yesterday.

Betty & Charlotte kindly signed my books while I told them how much I appreciated the 2 cookbooks they co-authored with 8 other women & they smiled for my camera.

The Ten Thousand Villages store had prepared some tasty treats from some of the recipes featured in the new book. The proceeds from the "Celebrations" book are going towards a MCC project in Kenya to provide clean water for children.  As well as having many wonderful recipes, some more complicated than others, the book has amazing photography with many heart warming stories.

Sunday, May 12

This Sunday afternoon's drive took us west along the No. 3.

Blue, blue skies with trees trying desperately to bud out.

This is the set for Manitoba's Passion Play at La Riviere. Great place to visit any time of the year
as it is set in a beautiful valley & also has some walking trails.

From La Riviere, we drove south.

We visited a little prairie town, Snowflake. Didn't appear that very many people lived here now.

A cairn to mark the school site.

I wonder if this was the general store where people from all around
got their mail & groceries.

A collection of bales in the valley.

Of course, this classic caught hubby's eye!

And we finished off the day with an invite to a bonfire.
